Welcome to my blog. It's called "Gawain and the Green Night", in homage to my favorite Arthurian legend: The one about the boy who knelt. But to make another Game of Thrones reference, it's not called "Sir Gawain and the Green Night", because I'm no Ser. And there's enough hubris in the world today as it is.
Along those lines, other possible titles were "Hesiod's Sour Grapes", "Atlantean-American" and "Rome II: We-Were-Never-As-Good-As-Them Boogaloo!"
Anyway, I'm Matt Lindquist, and this is my blog inspired by my love of history, my train-wreck fascination with current events, and my bewildered resignation that my beloved(for I truly do love this) country has decided, with all its heart, to double down and charge full speed ahead. Straight off a cliff. In every possible way.
More will come later and more will be told; I'm aiming to get at least one blog entry off my chest per week, deadlines to be decided. But for now, I want to thank my very special friend Mary Tibbets, whose refreshingly flame-war-free facebook post inspired me to write such a huge wall of text that I thought to myself "Fuck it, I'm just going to make a blog." If you have to thank someone for this(or hate someone, I guess- most of what I'm going to say is probably going to be pretty unpopular with a lot of people), she's the one. But for now, let's dive right into that facebook post. And it's all about one of the issues du jour.
